2. Hokkaido is less "Japanese" compared to the rest of Japan.
If you want to visit ancient temples or imperial palaces, this is definitely not the place to visit.

3. Hokkaido is a top destination for ski-lovers.
I have not idea about ski, so suppose that I am the wrong person to give you advice here,
but the Niseko ski resort is considered the best in East Asia.

4. The city of Hakodate in the south part of Hokkaido has an excellent city view and an Orthodox Church with a unique bell sound.

5. Sapporo hosted the 1972 Winter Olympic games. This is actually the main reason it is sister-city with München, which hosted the 1972 Summer Olympic games.

6. Hokkaido university is a very large university, in the centre of Sapporo, with excellent places for walking and also has a free museum.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic Marathon event was held in Sapporo and a big portion of the course run through Hokkaido university.
Sapporo clock is also on the centre of Sapporo.
