Μετά το πρόσφατο okinawa slideshow με ρώτησαν σε ένα άλλο φόρουμ για την τοππική κουζίνα, οπότε ορίστε μερικά δείγματα:
Food was great, quite different from the japanese cuisine: Consisted of a lot of "champuru" or "mix" varieties as main dish, which were vegetables, meat and/or a main ingredient which sets the champuru name, like:
-Goya Champuru (goya is a really bitter cucumber-like veggie, good with pork but sometimes too much of it in the mix)
-Fuu Champuru (omelet strips)
-Shomin champuru (bean sprouts)
Other than that, they had slow-cooked big cubes of pork belly (kind of fatty but great with rice), cooked in a sweet sauce (base of the sauce was black sugar, soy sauce and
mirin) for sometimes even 6 hours or more!
Umi-budou, a salad topping or simple salad by itself, means "sea grapes". It is a kind of seaweed that looks like tiny green grapes and tastes 90% like caviar. Veggie caviar?
Tofu-you: A pungent, smelly, tiny and expensive piece of fermented tofu (tofu = bean curd product, like really soft on-salty cheese). Too strong fermented taste even for my adventurous appetite.
Ishigaki shioyaki gyuu: One of the best beefs of japan, sliced in thinish bites coal roasted with local high-quality sea salt. Yumm!
Agu: The magical okinawan black pork - this pork is not only tastier than most pork in Earth - it's actually healthy! Like really healthy! Cholesterol and fat levels are a whopping 1/3 of normal pork while iron and other nutrients are from above-normal to 2x!
Orion beer - local okinawan beer - VERY VERY good and refreshing!
Shima-togarashi: A kind of vinegarish sauce with hot hot hot chilies resting in it. Clearish colour, hot as hell. Used as a condiment on soups etc.
Saataa Andagii: A kind of thick, firm round doughnut with flavor deep-fried in fat: Unhealthy, but so filling you get full with just one. Typical flavors were black suger, sweet potato, vanilla, banana and pineapple.
Beni-imo tart: tart with soft purple sweet potato cream, not bad, not too sweet.
Chinsukou: Nice biscuits with dipping sauces like molasses cream, choco etc, good for breakfast
Taco-rice: A weird byproduct from the american occupation years, this thing is actually the ingredients of a taco (cheese, tomato, bacon, chilly etc) on rice. Not bad.
Yashigani: the coconut crab seen above, boiled and served with some vegetables
Inoshishi-jiru: Boar soup! Boar meat, potato-type, veggies etc in a hearty broth. Good!
And moar!
