The basic idea with Stockholm Japan Expo is to create an annually recurring gathering point revolving around Japanese popular culture, for the enthusiasts, the business and for the curious public. Stockholm Japan Expo thus is in this position, Swedens first event for Japanese culture that aim at several target groups simultaneously. Similar events being organized previously in Sweden has only aimed at the most enthusiastic audience. The ambition of Stockholm Japan Expo is to attract the enthusiasts and at the same time go one step further and present all the best that Japan has to offer to as many visitors as possible.
Stockholm Japan Expo is furthermore Sweden's first festival for Japanese music. The event will feature many different concerts, the main stage will offer Japanese bands of different genres and the smaller stage will feature Swedish local acts. The evenings will spoil the visitors with nightclubs where Dj's will perform.

Conventions for enthusiasts of Japanese popular culture has been arranged in Sweden since the middle of the 90s. Stockholm Japan Expos goal is to become the biggest convention for Japanese popular culture in Sweden yet. Otaku or just curious, it doesn't matter, there will be lots of activities for everyone in the convention-part of Stockholm Japan Expo.
AMV Contest
A proud tradition at conventions is the AMV-contest. AMV is an abbreviation of "Anime Music Video" and includes you choosing an anime and music of your choice and compose a music video. Editing skill, timing and the ability to bring forth a message are some of the skills demanded to create a winning AMV.
Cosplay
On Stockholm Japan Expo, we will offer you different cosplay-arrangement such like individual competition in cosplay with great prices to win, like; best handmade cosplay, best idea and the publics choice. Before every new con we try to improve the experience for both cosplayers and the audience, there for is there often rule changes from year to year.
Drawing Competition
Two drawing competitions will be held at Stockholm Japan Expo. One will be a traditional drawing competition and the other will have a time-limit, both competitions will be held on the Saturday. The theme of the competition without any time limitation will be announced on the Stockholm Japan Expo webpage soon.
Karaoke
A Karaoke competition will be arranged where you can outsing your competitors and use your talent to win.
Para-Para
The Japanese club dance Para Para features hand and arm movements and is mainly performed to Eurobeat. It's popularity peaked in the late 90's but is still a common sight in Tokyo's head club district, Shibuya. There will be a performance by the Swedish Para Para-group Para Para Connexion.

In the video game part of Stockholm Japan Expo the visitors will be able to play arcade and video games in all genres and forms. Why not dance til' the sweat drops, slap colourful spheres on beat to the music or pretend to be a hot Dj for a minute? So there will be various Game, Arcade and Console tournaments including Dance Dance Revolution.

EXPO AREA

The expo part of Stockholm Japan Expo will take place in a large exposition hall which will be the center of the whole event. The exposition hall will be open to both the public and the business. Both major and minor, commercial and nonprofit participants will have an opportunity to display themselves to the visitors and make new contacts among each other. Exhibitors will of course have the opportunity to settle for different sizes of exhibition spaces, all according to their needs. The exhibition-part of Stockholm Japan Expo will feature exhibitors of all kinds. Companies will present their business and all sorts of products will be demonstrated. It's a perfect opportuinity to ask questions and network with companies working with japanese popular culture.
Fashion Show
Stockholm Japan Expo will arrange a fashion show on the big scene where we concentrate on some of the popular street cloth styles from Japan.
We also want to inform about different styles more then just the Lolita fashion and we welcome all styles like Decora, Aristocrat, Japanese punk or Gyaru to show and give knowledge about this fantastic fashions that there is, girl or boy does not matter.
Lectures
Several lectures with connection to Japan will be held during the event. Several actors, artists and bands have been approached.
Sales
Together with the exhibitors the exhibition hall will be a place for trade. Both large and smaller companies will be on location. This is a unique opportunity to find all kinds of Japan related gadgets, toys, merchandise and more all in one place.

MUSIC FESTIVAL

Stockholm Japan Expo 2009 is also Sweden's only music festival for Japanese music this far. Japanese bands and local Swedish acts will play on two stages and offer a diverse mix of music. The festival will also offer the fans a chance to meet the artists in signing sessions and special O&A-panels.

Q&A Panel
During a Q&A, or Questions and Answers panel you have your chance as a visitor to ask the artists questions. Will you be the one that dares to ask a question in Japanese?
Club Shibuya
Club Shibuya, Swedens main nightclub for Japanese dance music will organize two nightclubs at Stockholm Japan Expo. The Friday will feature a alcohol free evening without any age limit. The Saturday party will have a 18year age limit and alcohol will be served. This evening will feature live-acts from Dj?s and musical performance from bands and requires a separate entrance ticket.
